3 Simple Sustainable Habits You Can Start Today on Earth Day (Without Overthinking It)

We think about sustainability every day at Sēkwl – how we source, how we make our products, how we ship and distribute, and how we show up as a brand in a category that hasn’t always prioritized responsibility.
We believe that businesses need to operate more responsibly, and so we built this into our core ethos. It’s on us to do better and to drive change within our industry. We are small but mighty and up to the challenge!
If you want to do more but don’t know where to start with this whole topic, no worries. We got you. There’s no shortage of advice out there. But we’ve always believed sustainability should feel approachable, not overwhelming or out of reach.
Earth Day, for us, isn’t about pressure. It’s a chance to celebrate the planet, reflect on the choices we make, and feel good about the small ways we can do better – together.
For us, that means:
- Using organic ingredients wherever possible
- Building products that deliver both flavor and function (so you need less, not more)
- Thinking about how our customers buy and use Sēkwl – encouraging fewer, more intentional orders through stock-ups and subscriptions
- Continuously working to reduce our overall footprint as we grow
If you’re looking to be a little more thoughtful about your impact, here are three simple ways to start:
1. Choose Products with Purpose
Not all products are created equal. And even more importantly, not all “sustainable” claims actually mean much.
One of the most impactful things you can do is support purpose-driven brands – especially smaller ones that build with intention from the start, rather than retrofit sustainability later. We are one of countless small businesses, and supporting local makes a huge difference in your communities!
2. Build Low-Waste Daily Rituals
We’re also the first to admit that there’s always been a bit of irony when a consumer brand talks about “reducing consumption.” It’s not lost on us that we only exist because of consumers… It’s literally in the name! But well-being and health are important sustainability drivers too – maybe they aren’t immediately climate-related, but healthy, balanced humans are likely to stand up to protect Planet Earth.
This is why encouraging our community to prioritize themselves and their daily rituals is so important to us. The opportunity is to make those rituals simpler, more intentional, and less wasteful, all of which contribute to a future we can all hope to create.
3. Progress Over Perfection (Always)
Finally, here’s the tip that matters most. If sustainability feels overwhelming, it’s probably because you’re trying to do too much at once – and trust me when I tell you that you can’t boil the ocean… aka we can’t do it all. I’ve tried!!
You don’t need to get it right every time. But the planet needs all of us on board and making small decisions that collectively add up. Remember, taking care of yourself and your community, using your voice, and voting with your dollars are the most important things you can do.
Maybe swap one habit. Or simplify one routine. Then do it again. That’s how change works.
This doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, it shouldn’t be.
Small shifts over time can make a real impact.
